Virginia May (Counter) Weaver of Toledo, “slipped the surly bonds of earth” on January 27th, 2016 at the age of 101. Born August 25, 1914 to Dorothea (Meissner) and Charles Counter, Virginia (Jinny) grew up on Suder Ave with her grandparents, aunts, uncle, brothers and cousins. Preceding her in death was her husband and lifelong friend Earl; parents, Dorothea and Charles; brother, Walton (Bud); and her fairy Godmother, May Engel. A proud graduate of Waite High School class of 1932, Jinny raised three children and worked as a unit clerk at the Toledo Hospital for 21 years, retiring to care for her grandchildren. She volunteered for the Toledo Hospital Auxiliary until she was ninety, pushing patients half her age in wheelchairs. An active member of the Eleanor Kahle Senior Center, she volunteered, served on the board, line-danced and played crazy pinochle. Jinny was quick to dance the Charleston and burst into song. She was famous for her Seafoam salad and Christmas cutout cookies. Virginia lived a full and prosperous life and enjoyed traveling, theater, knitting, sewing, shopping, gardening, playing cards, watching Lawrence Welk, feeding the birds, and rescuing cats.
