Virginia May Schwabel, a woman of kind words, compassion and empathy for others, and an unending love for her family, completed her journey on earth September 18, 2012. Born September 19, 1924 in Carey, Ohio to Thomas & Catherine Nye Baker, she was the youngest of four and was Daddys Girl . Her siblings , Clyde, Joseph, and Helen all preceded Virginia in death. She married John Schwabel on April 13, 1947 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, moved to Tiffin, and on to Maumee where she and her husband raised their family. Virginia was involved in the Wayne Trail PTA working on school carnivals and classroom activities. She was both a den mother and Girl Scout leader. She was also active for many years with the St Petris Womans Guild. As an excellent seamstress, Virginia created one of a kind prom dresses for her daughter. Virginia often told memorable stories of her first job at age 18 as a milk maid delivering milk with her best friend Nadine in Carey, Ohio. Early in her marriage she worked at Willys Overland in Toledo, and later worked as a sales clerk for JC Penny at Wrab B. She retired from Southwyck Bowling Lanes as owner/manager of the snack bar where she served up free french fries to her grandkids and their friends. Virginia loved to travel. There were family vacations in Alpena Michigan, summers spent at Shady Shores on Lake Erie she loved catching perch and walleye ! , winters in Fort Myer, Florida with her snowbird friends, and motor home trips to western states. Ginny loved life and will be remembered as a child of God, best friend, loving wife, mother, grandmother, watch out - the Getche bug is coming to get cha ! and great grandmother. She leaves behind to cherish her memory husband John, children Karen John , David Debbie and Bruce Dawn . Grandchildren Matthew Karen , Aaron Regan , Ryan Holly , John Lindsay , Luke, Cierra Scott , Megan, Bruce, Kristin, Erik, Isiah, Olivia and 15 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 8:00 pm at Maison- Dardenne -Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant Street Maumee, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday at Maison -Dardenne- Walker with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Garden in Waterville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimers Association.
