Our dearly loved Smokey went home to be with the Lord and her devoted husband for her birthday, on January 21, 2010 at home, surrounded by her blessed family. Virginia was born in Flint, MI to Edward and Lena Lasley. She was the fourth of thirteen children. In her younger days she enjoyed working at the familys watering hole where she met the love of her life, Richard Nierman. They were forever united on June 1, 1948 who she was forever devoted to even after his passing on September 27, 1979. Virginia was best caring for others, never stopping or looking back. As a young mother of four children and a sick husband she always stood strong. Virginia went to work for St. Lukes Hospital in 1972 to provide for the family. Smokey took pride in the work she and her workers did. She continued to work until her retirement in 1991. To keep busy she loved to spend time with her family, travel, and live life to the very end. Her trips and holiday gatherings at The Farm were her favorite. Surviving are her siblings Arlene, Harriet, Jacqueline, Edward, William, Charles, Benjamin and Barbara; children, Ric Carol, Jim Sherri, Benjeania and Carla; also many special grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Lena Lasley; husband, Richard; siblings, Jim, Sammy, Bob and Veronica. Special thanks to the big hearts and caring hands at Hospice especially, Wendy. The family requests that any memorials be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Family and friends may visit Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee where funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
