Virginia Carol Collins

Virginia Carol Collins, known as "Ginny," to friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, with her loving son at her side.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on November 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Bertha (Meek) Ormston and Ralph Ormston. She grew up in Toledo, graduating from Waite High School before attending the University of Toledo. In 1956, she married George Collins of Toledo, and they were together until he passed in 2018. Together they had two sons, Hugh in 1957 and John in 1960.

In 1960, George's career with Libbey Glass (Owens-Illinois) took the family to Southern California. While there, Ginny expanded her love for literature and taught English classes at Mt. San Antonio Junior College. The family returned to Toledo in 1972, where both boys attended Ottawa Hills High School. She also taught classes at the University of Toledo. She and her husband next moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, in 1980, followed by Chicago, Illinois, in 1983, before they ultimately made their final move back home to Toledo in 2005.

Ginny and George shared a deep love for the outdoors. They greatly enjoyed their running group as well and walking, riding bikes, and creating lasting memories with their grandchildren at their beloved cottage on Devils Lake in Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Dolores Benson and Mary Berry.

Ginny is survived by her younger sister, Ruthie (Ray) Trznadel; her two sons, Hugh Collins and John (Joette) Collins; three grandchildren, Scott (Anna) Collins, Julie (Michael) Walker, and Nicole Collins; and three great-grandchildren, Eleanor Mae Collins, Michael Anthony Walker, and Julius John Walker.

Family and friends are invited to visitation with the family at Walker Funeral Home on Friday, August 7th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Virginia's memory to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
