Virginia “Ginny” Klewer Church, 86, had the last stamp added to her passport on June 25, 2014 in Northwood, Ohio. Born in Toledo, Ohio on December 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Louis A. Klewer and Pauline (Miller) Millard. Ginny graduated from Devilbiss High School, earned her Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Toledo and her Masters degree in Counseling from Bowling Green State University. Ginny lived in Perrysburg for 35 years where she raised her family and enjoyed remodeling the old school house on West River Road, where she lived. Ginny taught school for many years in Columbus, Northwood and Toledo Public Schools. After retiring from teaching, she moved to Key West, Florida. Her greatest love was traveling. She joined the Peace Corps twice, the first time she was in Poland and then a few years later in El Salvador. Ginny had visited all 50 states in the US and over 100 foreign countries. Her travels have included Earthwatch trips of Safaris in Africa, the Mayan Ruins in Mexico, counting whales in Alaska, explored the Outback in Australia, walking part of the Great Wall of China and birdwatching and banding in the Galapagos Islands. She has sailed twice around the world on Container and Freight ships and taken numerous Windjammer trips. Ginny was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, World Wildlife, Green Peace, Daughters of the American Revolution, Reef Relief in Key West, Habitat for Humanity, the Sierra Club and the Toledo Zoo. Surviving Ginny are her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jane Church of Okemos, Michigan, daughter, Jane (Church) Kaiser and fiancé, Todd Ritenour of Fremont, Ohio, grandson, Chad Kaiser of Fremont, Ohio and Grand Dogs, Champ and Kirby. She is preceded by her parents, sister, Kathleen Sturtz and ex-husband, Charles R. Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Parkcliffe Communities of Northwood and Great Lakes Hospice for their care and compassion. Burial arrangements are being handled by Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133). Burial will be private at Roth Cemetery in Monclova. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family and sent to the funeral home. “Life is a cabaret old chum.”
