Virginia A. Dunn

June 18, 1941 — January 11, 2024

Virginia A. Dunn, 82, of Sylvania Township, OH passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at home. Virginia was born in Port Clinton to Virgil and Hope Hebert. She married John Dunn August 8, 1970. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. Virginia is survived by her husband John and four sons; Raymond Joe (Penney) St. Clair, Mark (Kathleen) St. Clair, Paul (Nicole) St. Clair, and Christopher (Tara) Dunn; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Four sisters, Geraldine (Vince) Peterson, Hope (Bill) Summy, Michelle (Matt) Mesok, Vickie (Steve) Bowman, and one brother, Larry Hebert, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, David St. Clair.


Virginia grew up in Lakeside and attended the Methodist Church there. Virginia graduated from Danbury High School and attended the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing.


Virginia and husband John and family lived in Port Clinton for many years until John’s work transferred them to Saginaw, MI and then, to Toledo, OH. Wherever she lived, she joined the local Methodist Church. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church for the last 20 years.


Virginia was always busy and active. Virginia enjoyed serving others and often extended her warm hospitality to family and friends. She hosted many gatherings in her home over the years. Virginia was a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America having served as Den Mother, District Commissioner, and District Training Staff for Toledo Area Council of BSA. She held the District Award of Merit, the Council Silver Beaver Award and she was a 3-beader Woodbadge holder as a Cub Scout Leader. She was a staff member of the 1987 East Central Region “Akela Calls” training event. Supporting her sons who were members of Lawrence Chapter DeMolay, Virginia was a member of the DeMolay Mothers Club. She served on the Board of Directors for Commodore Perry Credit Union. She was a member for many years of the Manor House at Wildwood Metropark volunteer group.


Virginia was well known for her volunteer service to the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron six times, she served as District Six President, Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Ruth, Regional Treasurer, and President of the Ohio Secretaries and Treasurer's Organization.


Virginia had worked for the Port Clinton Schools as a substitute librarian and secretary. She also had worked for Ida Rupp Public Library where she enjoyed leading the Youth Program and visiting home bound folks delivering books. She worked for the Saginaw School system as a member of the library staff.


Virginia was talented with needle and thread. She hand sewed several quilts and won blue ribbons for her work at the Ottawa County Fair. She was an original member of the Ohio Star Quilters. She loved tatting and made several special gifts for friends and family over the years. She also hand made gift cards and taught classes on iris folding. She was known for her string art greeting cards. Virginia loved to collect miniature light houses.


The family is deeply indebted to Dr. Mary Baldwin and nurse Cheri for the love and care they have given to Virginia. Also, the family is especially grateful to Angie Parker for her special loving in-home care these last years.


The family will receive friends at Gerner and Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 4PM to 7PM. An OES Service will be held at Gerner and Wolf-Walker Funeral Home on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 7PM. Memorial Services will be conducted at Gerner and Wolf-Walker Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 11AM. The service will be officiated by Rev. Warren Brown. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. A funeral reception will be held at Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge after the committal service. The lodge is located at 118 Monroe Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or Easter Seals or the Ohio Eastern Star Home. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
