Virgil H. Winfrey, age 87, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born on December 3, 1922 in Carlise County, Kentucky to James and Pearl Hobbs Winfrey. Virgil graduate from DeVilbiss High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was the founder and pastor of Antioch Baptist Church for 15 years. Virgil was then employed at General Dynamics as a cost accountant until retiring in 1985. He was a member of Rubicon Lodge No. 237 F. A.M. and was active with the Masons and Browning Community Home. Virgil is survived by his children, Lynn Sharon Winfrey, Donald Tina Winfrey, Louise Jud Breedveld, Jeff Tammy Winfrey and Cindy Winfrey; granddaughter, Sunnye Orozco; and step-children, Sonja Russell Burns-Johnson, Michael Patty Hatzidakis, Edward Gerrilynn Hatzidakis, Jr., James Hatzidakis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Winfrey and his first wife, Oneda Winfrey Brown. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. where Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at the funeral home at 10 am followed by the entombment at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551.
