Violet Belle Horner, 94, of Ankeny, Iowa, entered into Heaven on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at home under the care of Mercy Hospice. Violet was born in Delta, Ohio, on February 10, 1927, to Edgar and Lena (Kuhn) Poorman. She married Robert Horner on October 23, 1948, in Pettisville, Ohio. Violet worked as a chef at various restaurants and as a salad preparer at two delis in Toledo, Ohio, before moving to Waterford, Michigan, and working as a house cleaner. She was always a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Violet enjoyed baking, cooking, and gardening, as well as caring for her family and friends. She was a member of Urbandale Baptist Church and served in the greeters’ ministry. Violet is survived by her children, David of Ankeny, IA, Linda (Dennis) St. Johns of Toledo, OH, Ronnie (Maria) of Omaha, NE, and Alan of Waterford, MI; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; grandson, Benjamin Horner; sisters, Virginia, Laura, Iris, and Bonnie; and brother, Lloyd. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Urbandale Baptist Church (6501 Aurora Ave., Urbandale, IA) with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Visitation will continue in Toledo, OH on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, with a graveside service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. As a show of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Urbandale Baptist Church Mission Fund or Faith Baptist Bible College Tock Scholarship Fund.
