Violet Cousino

Violet C. Cousino, age 99, a life-long resident of Oregon, OH passed away on Sunday May 15, 2016 at St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg where she was a resident since November 2013. She was born on December 26, 1916 to Alex and Laura (LaCourse) St. John in Jerusalem Township, Ohio. Violet was a Matron for the Board of Education for 20 years, a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Ignatius Parish, a CCD teacher for many years, and a Eucharistic Minister. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 70 years, Stephen Cousino; son- in-law, LeRoy Yard; granddaughter, Lisa Eberle and nine siblings. Violet was an avid gardener who still tended a large home garden at age 96. She loved to bake pumpkin and apple pies, fresh bread and donuts. She was a voracious reader, especially of Amish history, and completed a book a week, even while living at St. Clare Commons. Violet enjoyed going to mass, playing games and made a television commercial for Bartz Viviano at age 97. She was elected President of the Nursing Wing at S.C.C., was proud to be an advocate and spokesperson for fellow residents, and was especially proud of her independence. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia (Jesse) Chavez, Jean Yard, Richard (Marilyn) Cousino, and Cathy (Wesley) Berger; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren. Her family will be receiving friends at the Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio, from 2 - 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016. Funeral services on Friday, May 20, 2016 will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Oregon. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the St. Ignatius Church Building Fund.
