On Friday, May 2, 2014, Vila L. Suchy, 78, of Sylvania Township, crossed over from this life into the arms of Jesus and her loved ones. She succumbed to the myriad of health problems endured over the past five years. Forty years ago, Vila was the first in her family to say Yes to the Lord and continued to grow in His love and in His word. Vila was born in Toledo, Ohio to John and Letha Williams, and was a Sylvania resident all her years. She attended Hillview Elementary and graduated from Burnham High School, class of 1953. She was a former member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Advent Lutheran Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church, and Westgate Chapel. She loved music and, with her two sisters in 1998, formed a sing-along group, The Smile Awhile Quartet. Playing her 12-string guitar and adding an accordion and a couple more voices, the group sang and played songs from yesteryear at various health care centers, senior centers, and churches in the Toledo area. Vila also enjoyed participating with music teams at many Koinonia Christian weekend retreats. Over the years she worked at various companies including K-Mart and Elder-Beerman, retiring from Sylvania Schools Student Services. Our Vila was a loving, caring person with a very generous heart, always ready to help others. She dearly loved her family and spent much quality time with them. Spring through fall would always find her in the family garden amidst the vegetables, flowers, raspberries, and wrens. Vila was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband, Karl 59 years; son, Michael J. Paulette; daughter, Jill Steve Eide; sisters, Virginia Donald Koester, Marilyn John Lechman and Sandra Lee Lemmon; six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt. A celebration of Vilas life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12th at Westgate Chapel, 2500 Wilford Dr. Toledo, 43615, followed by a luncheon. Please consider directing any memorial tributes or gifts to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo Camp Big Silver, 2250 N. Detroit Ave. Toledo, OH 43606. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation for and thanks to the staffs at Flower Hospital and Toledo Hospital Cardiac intensive Care Unit, and especially to our pulmonary angel-nurse, Paula R.
