Vernon R. White

Vernon died Tuesday morning at Hospice of Northwest Ohio where he had been under their care for a week and a half. He was born in Toledo to Phillip and Emma Boelter White on November 7, 1920 and was raised with nine brothers, all who preceded him in death. He attended Waite High School and then was graduated from The Ohio State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dairy Technology. After graduation, he was employed by Sealtest Dairy and then was the plant manager for Driggs Dairy. Following his careers in the dairy industry he became an inspector for the Lucas County Health Department retiring in 1985. On October 20, 1945 he married Lois Marie Moench and they settled into their first home on Letchworth Parkway. They raised three children: Dr. Phillip White Linda of Sylvania, Ohio; Deborah Cooper Michael of Marion, Ohio; and Susan Wendt Keith Johnson of Toledo, Ohio. In 1986 they moved to Sylvania Township. Vernon and Lois were happily married for fifty four years until Lois passed away in 2000. Vernon particularly loved children and they loved him. He will be remembered and will be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren: Lisa Harbaugh Jeff, Michael Henry Katherine, Jennifer OBrien Timothy, Matthew White Erin, Jonathan White Camille, Laura Wendt, and Christopher Wendt. He will also be missed by seven great grandchildren: Eric Harbaugh, Jack OBrien, Rachael Harbaugh, Alex Henry, Colin OBrien, Brady Henry, Kaitlin OBrien. Through the years of his life he had touched many lives of other family members and friends. He and Lois enjoyed traveling within the U.S., to Hawaii and on numerous trips to Australia. He and Lois especially enjoyed working on their homes and gardens. He was especially skilled working with his hands and he particularly enjoyed woodworking. He willingly shared this talent by helping many who knew and loved him. Vernon and Lois were active members of St. Lucas Lutheran Church before they moved to Sylvania Township. They then became active members of Sylvania First United Methodist Church The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care given to Dad by the caregivers of Christian Home Care and Hospice of NWO Home and Inpatient In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Sylvania First Untied Methodist Church, Hospice of NWO, or the American Lung or Heart Associations. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Lucas Lutheran Church, Sylvania First United Methodist Church, Hospice of NWO, or the American Lung or Heart Associations.
