Vernon Dick Phillips, 87, of Genoa, died Sunday morning, May 17, 2015, at his residence. He was born August 3, 1927, in Napoleon, Ohio, to Wayne F. and Helen K. (Lawrence) Phillips. On February 4, 1962, in Risingsun, Ohio, he married Rosemary H. Brell and she survives. Dick worked over 30 years as a furnace operator at Brush-Wellman (now Materion) retiring in 1992. He also farmed and had previously worked at Sun Grain Elevator in Risingsun for many years. Dick was a member of First Church of God in Risingsun and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in WWII and the Korean War. Dick was involved for 45 years in the Boy Scouts and was Advancement Chairman of Troop #385 for many years. He volunteered and was very involved with the Genoa FFA for nearly 20 years. Dick was an avid supporter of A.R.C. of Wood County. He loved to fish and spend time with his family, and the Cleveland Indians and the Browns were his favorite teams. In addition to his loving wife, Rosemary, Dick is survived by his children, Michael D. Phillips of NY, Karen K. DeShetler of Genoa and Rick T. (Amy) Phillips of Cincinnati; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Treva Betts of FL, Doyle Phillips of Clyde, and Emma Edinger of Risingsun. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Amanda DeShetler, and sister, Margaret Kiser, and brother, Walter Phillips. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Robinson Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the funeral home with interment to follow in Clay Township Cemetery.
