Vernell “Nellie” Goetz, 78, passed peacefully on May 1st, 2017, at St Vincent Mercy Medical center, surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife, Sandra (Barnes), of 60 years. Vernell was born on January 6th, 1939, in Oak Harbor, Ohio to William F. and Elnore F. (Fillmore) Goetz. On November 2nd, 1957, in Rocky Ridge, Ohio he married Sandra J. Barnes. Together they raised their 3 children Bradley, Laurie, & Brian. In 1993 Vernell retired from L.O.F. as an electrician and retired again in 2011 after working for Yackee Electric Service in Martin. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rocky Ridge. He was a man who showed his love through working and being a provider to his family. Vernell will be remembered for his impeccable work ethic and willingness to help by many, but his most valuable trait resided not only in his desire to provide but also his ability to be a loving family man who always kept his cool. He was the voice of reason for many and never turned down the opportunity to lend a helping hand, whether it was home repairs after his long work day, studying with the grand kids to help them pass their next test, or playing on the floor with the great grand kids. He was a self taught jack of all trades and would do anything he could to ensure his family’s happiness and success. He was many times a man of few words but when he talked, you listened to every detail knowing it was of the utmost value and importance. His witty humor, calm and collective demeanor, and generous heart will be missed by all. Vernell is survived by his wife, Sandra (Barnes); children Bradley Goetz of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Laurie Blay of Graytown, Ohio, & Brian Goetz of Graytown, Ohio.; grandchildren, Brody, Brittany, Nicholas, Nicole, BrookeAnne, Skylor, Zachary, Ashley, Brandy, great grandchildren; Cole, Grayson, Taylor, Mason, Olivia, Hudson, Landyn, Zander, Zoey, Brayden, Bryar, Brantley, Everett, and great great grandchild; Kellen; brothers; Norbert (Brenda) Goetz, & Vernon Goetz.
