Vernadell V. Davis

February 6, 1925 — December 23, 2014

Vernadell V. Davis, age 89, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2014 at Kingston of Sylvania.  The daughter of Henry and Elsie Rose, she was born February 6, 1925 in Bridgeport, OH.  She was a member of the American Rose Society and Toledo Rose Society.  She was also a member of the  Buckeye District Rose Society where she served as president and treasurer as well as secretary and two time president for the Toledo Rose Society.  She was chairperson for many Toledo Rose Shows and Buckeye District shows.  Vernadell was named Outstanding Rosarian of the Buckeye District in 1980.  The West Toledo Herald wrote an article on her award and after visiting her rose garden, they gave her the title of Rose Doctor because she made house calls to the rose gardens of people who had rose problems.  Because of her expertise on roses, she often gave symposiums on roses, including one in Mexico City.  Having the maiden name of Rose, it was fitting that she was the Rose Doctor.  Her son Ron picked up the love of gardening roses and was often found working by her side in her gardens.  Rose often said One is nearer to God in the Garden than any other place on earth because you spend a lot of time kneeling while working in a garden.  Vernadell and her son loved to feed the birds and squirrels whom she would give names to.  She volunteered much of her time as a member of the Samagama and Parkview Hospital Auxiliary serving a president for one year.  She was very proud of the auxiliary for all work and fund raising they had accomplished for the hospital.  She was also a member of St. Clement Catholic Church.  Vernadell loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by her son, Ronald L. Davis; grandchildren, Laurie (K.C.) Sheehy, Tammy (Stacy) Beach, Patrick  Davis, Heather (Charles) Harris; great grandchildren, Brandi and Devon Beach, Jeffrey Sheehy JJ, Alyssa Harris, Janaya Harris and Charles Harris II; sisters, Margaret McNett, daughter in law, Jane Davis; niece and Godchild, Karen Lewis and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews whom she loved all dearly.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Richard; son, Richard B. Rick Davis Jr., sister, Shirley Ann Lafferty; brothers, Henry L. Rose Jr., Kenneth A. Rose and Jack E. Rose. Friends may visit the family on Sunday at Walker funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd) from 2-7 PM where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Clement Church 3030 Tremainsville Rd Toledo, OH 43613 or American Heart Association 3540 Secor Rd Toledo, OH 43606.  Condolences may sent to the family at walkerfuenralhomes.com.
