Vern Strayer

Vernon Strayer, age 94 of Maumee, Ohio passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Vern was born on January 21, 1917 in Maumee to John F. and Clara Kosch Strayer. Vern was employed for the City of Maumee in the water department as superintendant for over 22 years, retiring in l983. Vern was also a farmer for many years prior to working for the city. Vern was a member of Maumee United Methodist Church, past member of the Exchange Club, Compass Club, served on the Board of Directors for Perrysburg Grain and Supply and past president of the Lucas County Farm Bureau. Vern enjoyed woodworking, gardening and volunteering for mobile meals for over 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Erma; children, Janet Jack Denton, Robert Janet Strayer and John Bonnie Strayer; grandchildren, Joanne Jason, Chris Andrea, John Emily, Mike, Greg Corey Mark Jacie, Steve and Susan; great grandchildren, Trent, Tyler, Ashley, Will, Nathan and Levi. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Dan Strayer; sisters, Mary Mertes, Dorothy Bowles and brother Donald Strayer. Family and friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant, Maumee on Friday, November 4, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Maumee United Methodist Church, 405 Sackett St., Maumee at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Swan Creek Cemetery, Monclova, Ohio.
