Vera V. Schultz, 90, of Oak Harbor, died Monday morning, July 20, 2015, in the Edward & Marion Knight Hospice Center, Perrysburg, Ohio. She was born on April 10, 1925, to Ernest and Anna (Rafferty) Avery in Toledo, Ohio. Vera married Virgil Schultz in Oak Harbor on January 29, 1948, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2008. Vera had worked in Janitorial Services for the Toledo Building Services Company for 14 years. During that time she was contracted with the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. Vera loved to bowl and belonged to a ladies league for many years. She was known for her chicken recipe and her fudge she made at Christmas time. To many children she was known as the Candy Lady, because she always had candy in her purse to give out. Vera is survived by her son, Gerald Jerry (Jean) Schultz of Oak Harbor, daughter-in-law, Susie Schultz Phillips, also of Oak Harbor, grandchildren, Richard Schultz, Stacy Wasserman, Brian Schultz, and Desiree Weidner, 11 great grandchildren, brothers, Charles Avery and Allan Avery, special friend, Maryann Young, along with many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Virgil, son, Glenn Schultz, brothers, Jack, Richard & Ernest Avery, and sisters, Ellean Shaneck and Donna Ireland. A funeral service for Vera will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2015, in St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, OH. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St. Oak Harbor. Interment will be in the Salem Township-Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. The family suggests that memorial contributions for Vera be directed to the church.
