Vera M. Granny Sarnes

Vera Mae Granny Sarnes, 78, of Oak Harbor, passed away Monday, December 7, 2009, surrounded by her family at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio. She was born September 28, 1931, in Huron, Ohio, to Ralph and Hazel St. Clair Saddoris. On February 1, 1958, in LaCarne, Ohio, she married Alvin Abe Sarnes and he preceded her in death August14, 2000. She graduated from Salem High School in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Vera worked at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, the Druckenmiller Insurance Agency in Oak Harbor, and also as a waitress. She retired in 1984 then moved to sunny Florida. Vera enjoyed painting, reading, playing cards, and bingo. Vera is survived by her daughter, Beverly David Ontko of Oak Harbor; sons, Randy Witt of California, David Sarnes of LaCarne, and Fred Sarnes of LaCarne; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Geldien, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Jeannette Whitaker Barnes, son, Steven Witt, and infant son, Russell Witt. Visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2009, from 2-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Oak Harbor. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Dan Bostater officiating. Memorial contributions for Vera may be given to the Sunshine Childrens Home, 7223 Maumee Western Rd., Maumee, OH 43537, or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
