Velma Delores Meckfessel, 84, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, OH. Velma was born on March 15, 1926 in Curtice, OH, the daughter of Otto and Luella Lowe Diefenthaler. She married Frederick A. Meckfessel, Jr. in Hobe Sound, FL and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1992. Velma worked as a medical records coordinator for Hobe Sound Geriatric Center retiring in 1992. She also worked as a secretary for Toledo Steel from 1946 to 1952, Parkview Hospital as an admitting clerk from 1970 to 1980 and was a receptionist for Dr. Cox in Florida from 1981 to 1984. Velma was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, OH. She was a member of the Riverview Nursing Home Auxiliary since 1993 and served as a board member. Velma was a past Den mother and Brownie leader for the Oak Harbor scouts. She also delivered mobile meals. Velma will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include son, Lauren Glenda Fillmore, of Converse, TX; daughters, Diane Scott Meckfessel of Oak Harbor and Janet Jeff Cluckey Schmidt of Martin, OH; brother, Clarence Ruth Diefenthaler of Curtice, five grandchildren, Shawn MaryJo Meckfessel, Sarah Brad Harvey, Jeremy Tailford, Ryan Tailford and Melissa James Losie; seven great grandchildren, Brock Hanney, Ashleigh Meckfessel, Zachary Harvey, Jacob Harvey, Allison Harvey, Leyton Losie and Landon Losie; step sons. Scott Meckfessel, Fred Meckfessel Jr. and John Mike Meckfessel; step daughters, Kim Bebow and Cheri Rowe. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Charlotte Reinhart and brothers-in-law, William Reinhart and John Meckfessel. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor, OH, with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor David Tinker at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010, in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, OH. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH. Memorial contributions for Velma may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, or Stein Hospice, Sandusky, OH.
