Fred J. Underwood, 84, of Walbridge, passed away Tuesday, January 06, 2015 at Arbors of Oregon formerly of Parkcliffe. Fred was born on July 19, 1930 to Lola Mae (Pack) and Elmer Underwood in Jumping Branch, West Virginia. Fred married Flossie June Campbell, the love of his life, in Clifton Forge, Virginia on October 19, 1950. Fred was an engineer with the former C & O Railroad (now CSX) for 46 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Paragon Masonic Lodge #0788 F & AM. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 59 years, Flossie, his daughter Beverly Mathews, sister, Mildred Parker, his in-laws, June’s five brothers, four sisters and grandchildren, Scott Hart and Andrea Ignaczak. Remaining to honor his memory are his daughters, Drema (Richard) Ignaczak, Mary (David) Brenskelle, Sandra (Anthony) Hart; son in law, Gary Mathews; brothers, Charles (Donna) Underwood, Johnny (Peggy Jo) Underwood, sister, Geneva (Donald) Parker; seven grandchildren , three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Heartland, Great Lakes Caring and Hospice of Northwest Ohio and all of the caregivers who helped take care of Fred for the past four years. Friends may visit on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 2:00 -8:00 p.m. at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio 43465 (419) 666-3121 with Paragon Masonic Lodge Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, January 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Timothy Sherman officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Walbridge Library.
