It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that my brother (Douglas Mutchler) and I, (Melissa Scheich) announce that our father, Tomme Douglas Mutchler, has passed forward into our Lords arms on July 13, 2017. Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at St. Charles Hospital/Emergency Room. While he was there he received excellent spiritual and medical care. We would like to thank each and every aide, doctor, nurse, and technician that helped our dad during his brief stay there. You were all so very kind to him and me…Thank you. It was dads plan to get back to his residence and his beloved dog, Tobi. He was admitted into Hospice in Toledo on Thursday, July 13th at 6:30pm. It was at 10:30pm that evening that dad passed forward. Dad lived his life on his own terms, doing what he thought was best and right for himself. He was a son, a brother, a father, a husband and a lone wolf, fiercely loyal to those he loved, brave, generous, and humble. Tomme was a 1960 graduate of Woodward High School. After high school, he went into the Union Painters Apprentice Program and upon completion began working for the City of Toledo Division of Harbor and Bridges. He joined the Toledo Fire Department in 1967 retiring in 1993 as Lieutenant. He continued painting on the side throughout his career. Tomme became an avid outdoorsman at a young age- biking, boating, fishing, hunting and taking his dogs for peaceful walks. He was a longtime member and financial supporter of St. Pauls Lutheran Church/Downtown Toledo. He gave countless hours of his time to Volunteers of America and was always there to give a leg up to whomever, whenever he saw a need. Dad taught us by his example to have a strong work ethic, to love our Lord, and to help others. Tomme was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Mutchler and Marian Mangas; brothers, Jim and Jeff; and nephew, Jason. His memory, love, and Tommeisms (those who knew him and his isms…those will put a smile on your face) will live on through his son, Doug (Michelle), their children, Korian, Solomon, Devona, and great-grandson, Braxton; his daughter, Melissa (Rick), their children, Kennedy and Richard; nephews, Mark, Matthew, and Gregory; sister-in-laws, Pat and Cathy; and dear friend, Kevin Burley. Tomme and Kevin met some fifty years ago and their bond has grown stronger and stronger through the years. Whatever the situation, our family has been blessed by having Kevin in our lives. Interment will be private at the familys request. You can honor Tommes memory by giving a leg up to someone and forgiving when they fall short and by being a DOER (do-er). Well done, thou good and faithful servant- Matthew 25:21.
