Thora B Filkins

Thora B. Filkins age 102 of Holland, OH passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. She was born in Schenectady, NY on May 25, 1914 to Earl and Gertrude (Wilty) Bixby. Thora led a varied and productive life. She was the matriarch of a wonderful extended family, served on the Board of Directors for many volunteer organizations, and made life-long learning her ultimate goal. Painting had always been a passion for Thora, and she won numerous awards throughout her life. Her other hobbies included Duplicate Bridge (a Life Master), gardening, crocheting, and reading. In 2010, she became the Lucas County “My Fair Lady” at the county fair, representing Wolf Creek. A positive attitude, boundless energy and a love for life was Thora’s motto. Thora is survived by her children, Emilyn (Gerald) Jakes, Gail (William) Fowler and Jack (Deborah) Filkins; grandchildren, Linda, David (Laura), Cynthia (James), Peter (Julie), Kate, Sam (Lacey) and Lucas; 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herman and sister, Dallas. Thora’s family invite her friends to a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Lutheran Village Wolf Creek, 2001 Perrysburg Holland Rd., Holland, Ohio 43528. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for the 15 years of care and support given to our mother from the staff of Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, and the last few months of care by Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
