Thomas H. Smith, 87, of Temperance, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Toledo Hospital. He was born in Toledo to Eldon and Mildred (Brasket) Smith on September 1, 1933. Tom grew up in the Trilby neighborhood, graduating from Trilby Grade School, then Whitmer High School in 1951. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics from the University of Toledo where he was also in the Pi Kappa Fraternity. He was also active in the Boy Scouts, eventually becoming an Assistant Scout Master in Erie. Proudly serving in the US Army during in Korea, Tom had the unique title as Beverage Control Officer. Tom was a faithful Michigan Football fan and attended many home games as a season ticket holder. He enjoyed NASCAR (mainly during the Earnhardt era), ballroom and polka dancing, and boating on Lake Erie from the dock in his backyard. Tom’s loving wife of over 60 years, Mary (Felber) Smith, and he loved traveling to Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather. Tom was the Vice President and Operations Manager for Gradel Inc, an excavation and paving company, where he retired in 1997. Tom leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Mary Smith; children, Steve (Becky) Riley, Terry Smith; grandchildren, Brandon, Eric, and Kimberly; and brother, Ed Smith. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and parents. Friends and family will be received on Monday, August 2, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo (419-841-2422). A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial donations in Tom’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
