Thomas Shinevar, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 5, 2024, at Hospice of Lenawee. Born on March 16, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, Tom was the son of Leo and Agnes (Poupard) Shinevar. He was raised in Monroe, Michigan, and graduated from Monroe Catholic Central in 1956.
Tom proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Afterward, he embarked on a successful career as a manufacturing engineer at GM/Powertrain, dedicating 35 years to the company before retiring. His commitment extended beyond the workplace—he was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
Tom had a passion for woodworking and gardening. He found solace in creating beautiful pieces through woodworking and tending to his bountiful vegetable garden. Tom enjoyed cooking family meals. His specialties included Pipi Pickels, Spaghetti Sauce, and French Meatballs. Life on Dewey Lake brought him great joy, as did spending time with his grandchildren. As a parishioner of St. Joseph Shrine Irish Hills, he was strong in his faith.
Tom cherished connections with colleagues and friends. He regularly gathered with fellow GM retirees for lunch, and he maintained close ties with his Catholic Central class of 1956. Tom also enjoyed socializing at the Brooklyn American Legion where he was a member.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia A. Shinevar of Brooklyn, MI; daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Chris Bueschen of Sylvania. His grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily Bueschen, and Thomas Lee Shinevar will forever hold his memory dear.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sons, John Leo and Thomas Patrick. Tom’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the memories he created.
