Thomas Lee Scribner, age 84 passed away on January 19, 2017 in the Goerlich Center. He was born November 23, 1933 in Holland, Ohio to John E. and Virginia (Curtis) Scribner. Growing up in Bryan, Ohio he graduated from Bryan High School and later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo. In 1955 he married Vada Ernsberger who survives. The inventor of the clear plastics beverage container, he was a resident in Old Orchard, where neighbors saw him walking his dog Molly. He worked in Research and Development for Owens-Illinois where he designed and commercialized the plastics carbonated beverage container; commercialized the Hi-Cone carrier, a plastics appliance that unitized six beverage cans into a package. He is recognized as a pioneer in the field of plastics packaging. He is listed in Marquis Whos Who in America. For ten years he was Corporate Manager of Purchasing of all plastics materials at Owens-Illinois, at which time he was a board member and President of Purchasing Management of Toledo. He was one of the first members of America Mensa, Ltd., a derivative branch of International Mensa; a member of Sylvania Masonic Lodge; Monroe St. Methodist Church; and alumnus of the University of Toledo. Also surviving is his daughter Elizabeth (Michael) Roland; loving grandchildren Travis, Blake, Ethan Shearer and Michael Jr., Lucy, Morris and Randall Rowland; brother Douglas; and sister Patricia Nadolny. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers John and James. There will be no visitation and services will be private.
