Thomas Henry (Tom) Sayen passed away January 17, 2026, surrounded by love at Otterbein, Marblehead. Tom was born February 1, 1942, in Oregon, OH to Franklin and Elsie (Deiter) Sayen. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Beyer) Sayen; two children, Dawn Benschoter (Andrew Boes) and David Sayen (Linda Maynhart); three grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew and Zachary; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tom and Carolyn were married 58 years and happily raised their children in Monclova, OH. For many years Tom and Carolyn were 4-H advisors at the Lucas County Fair. Tom never turned his children down when they wanted to raise another animal for the Fair.
Tom had a long career at Toledo Edison and after early retirement began remodeling his Marblehead lake house. He had a gifted ability to understand how things worked and could fix about anything. He passed that talent on to his son and was a go-to person whenever someone needed help or advice. Encouraged by a neighbor, he began a handyman business lasting 10 years.
Tom was a long-distance bicyclist 30 years. He encouraged his wife, son and grandsons to join him on GOBA, riding a week in June every year for a family inspired adventure throughout OH. In full retirement, Tom and Carolyn spent several cherished winters in California. They biked, hiked and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity where Tom repaired and fixed donated goods sold in its San Luis Obispo "ReStore."
Tom had a penchant for coffee shops, making new friends sitting around Mama C's, Maumee and Jill's, Marblehead. To know Tom, you never forgot his welcoming "smile." He was a veteran of the Army Reserves, 1964 to 1969, and a long-time member of the Port Clinton and Maumee Elks.
Tom was predeceased by parents, sister Linda Bell, sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ron Urbanyi.
In lieu of flowers please consider Stein Hospice; Ashanti Hospice; or Habitat for Humanity, ReStore, Port Clinton, OH.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 1-3:30 PM at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory at 216 Washington St. In Port Clinton, OH followed by a memorial service at 3:30 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.WalkerFuneralHomes.com.
