Thomas Leigh Moore

Thomas Leigh Moore, 71, was at home and surrounded by loving family when he passed away on December 15, 2015. He was born in Elgin, IL, on March 5, 1944, to Doris (Beebe) and Roger Moore. Tom grew up in Oberlin, OH, and attended Bowling Green State University where he earned his degree in teaching and met the love of his life, Christine (Miles). They were married on November 25th, 1967 and just recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Tom taught in the Toledo Public Schools for 30 years, beginning his career at Nathan Hale. After 5 years he transferred to DeVilbiss High School where he coached JV baseball and was a member of the football coaching staff. When DeVilbiss closed its doors as a high school in 1991 Tom transferred to Start High School, from which he retired in 1998. Tom enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, reading, woodworking, and was an avid collector of Civil War memorabilia, stamps and coins. He was co-owner of the Toledo Stamp Exchange during its 13-years on Monroe Street and has worked part-time at Spuyten-Duyval Golf Course for many years. While his children were growing up, Tom enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams and serving as “GM” when Christine coached their daughter’s softball teams. Tom was a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved them fiercely and was enormously proud of his children Bradford (Jennifer) of Austin, TX, and Stephanie (Rob) Fulop of Avon, OH, and his grandchildren Daniel and Madeline Fulop and Katie and Jackson Moore. Tom is survived by his wife, Christine, his children, grandchildren, and a sister, Katherine (Jeff) Fast, Weston, MA. To honor Tom’s life his wife and children will receive family and friends from 2 to 7 PM on Saturday, December 19, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue. Burial will be private.
