Thomas Alan Markwood passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 26, 2010, at the age of 71 after a 3 month struggle with bone cancer. Tom was born in Toledo, OH on January 6, 1939 to Francis D. Markwood and Katherine Sutton Markwood. Tom graduated from Devilbiss High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and All City 1st team defensive football player in 1957. He attended Kent State University on a football scholarship, but after a career ending injury, returned to attend the University of Toledo, where he studied Finance and Accounting. While attending UT and working, he met his wife to be, Arlene Warner. Tom and Arlene were married May 18, 1962. Tom started his career with the Kaiser Jeep Corporation in Toledo in 1963, which became American Motors Corporation, where he held many accounting positions including his last role as the plant payroll manager. After a career of 23 years with AMC, he became disabled and retired in 1986. During that time, Tom was very involved in supporting sports in Toledo. He was an assistant baseball coach for Adams Township VFW #553 baseball team from 1974-1983 and attended every Rogers High school baseball and football game between 1978 and 1983. Tom was an officer of the Rogers High School Athletic Booster club from 1978-1983. He also served for many years as Treasurer for the Toledo Jeep Junior Open Golf Tournament. Tom loved the outdoors, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, wood working, owning and driving Jeeps and mastering a barbeque grill. Tom was always very proud and supportive of his three children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Arlene K. Warner Markwood, his son, Christopher W. Markwood, daughters, Carrie B. Markwood and Julie K. Markwood, daughter in law Tracy L. Markwood and grandchildren, Jackson W. Markwood and Peyton M. Markwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Makayla I. Markwood. The family would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude for the dedication and support provided by the many nurses, caregivers, and staff at Kingston Care Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Visiting Angels. We especially thank Derek and Mary at Kingston, Marla with Hospice, and Joe, Earl, Shannon, Jamie, Brianna, and Dianna with the Visiting Angels
