Thomas R. King, 86, of Perrysburg, OH, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on September 17, 1930 in Toledo to Thomas M. and Jessie (Sorenson) King. He was a graduate of Good Shepherd Grade School, Central Catholic High School, was an honor graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Notre Dame Law School (1955). After his graduation he enlisted and served as a specialist in the U.S. Army until his discharge in 1957. Upon returning from the Army he began his law practice in 1960. While building his private practice he worked for the City of Toledo Law Department and Prosecutor’s Office for thirteen years. He then joined his good friend, Francis McManus, who had an office in the Bell Building in which they practiced law together for twenty years until Mr. McManus passed away in 1996. James Adray and Dan Grna also has law offices in the Bell Building in downtown Toledo. They asked Tom to join their practice and he happily accepted their invitation. He had a wonderful relationship with Jim and Dan when he ended his practice with them in 2016. Tom was a very devoted Catholic and was very active in the various parishes and religious organizations that he belonged. His leadership qualities were well recognized as he was awarded the Catholic Big Brother of the Year, The Central Catholic Golden Shamrock and the University of Notre Dame Man of the Year. Tom was very proud of his Irish heritage. He loved Irish music and Irish jokes and enjoyed his many trips to Ireland. Tom was also was named Hibernian of the Year in 2012. Active with the Notre Dame Alumni with the football team, he was a scout for the Irish until the NCAA regulations made him ineligible to recruit high school athletes. He was the founder of the Notre Dame Traveling Squad whose members followed the Fighting Irish. Tom was affectionately known as “Mr. Notre Dame” to his many friends. Tom and his family are dedicated Boston Rd Sox fans. For 40 consecutive years, the family traveled to Winterhaven and Ft. Myers, Florida for spring training. He was a member of the BoSox Fan Club. He became great friends with many players, coaches, and other BoSox’s supporters. Tom’s main goal in life was to be the best husband and father he could be. His family was always first and foremost on his order of priorities. Spending time with his family were the happiest moments of his life and he cherished these opportunities to the fullest. He always felt that his family and friends made him the luckiest person in the world. He dearly loved his wife, Marion L. (Navarre) and often said the smartest thing he ever did was marry her, which he did on May 12, 1956. Tom is survived by his wife, Marion; children, Joni (Lon) King, Juli King, Thomas M. (Teri) King and Mary Pat King; grandchildren, Dr. Rory Strugalski (Kristen), Maura Duran (Andon), Justin Curry, Aaron Curry, Catherine King and Thomas King; great-grandson, Caden Hill and Baby Strugalski on the way; sister, Margaret Finnegan. He was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Wening, Mary Ellen Stenehjem, and Shirley Geringer. Friends will be received from 2 – 8 P.M. on Monday April 24, 2017 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where a scripture service will be held at 7 P.M.. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in All Saints Catholic Church, 628 Lime City Rd., Rossford, OH 43460. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery in Perrysburg. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in the form of contributions to All Saints Church, St. Rose Church in Perrysburg, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or to the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
