Thomas E Hazel

After a courageous battle with cancer, Thomas E. Hazel, 85, of Largo Florida, previously of Walbridge, OH, passed away at home on March 21, 2017. Tom was born December 18, 1931 in Toledo, OH to Edmond S. and Vera V. (Heath) Hazel. Tom married the love of his life, whom he always introduced as his Bride, Beverly Cramer on May 23, 1953. He was a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and regularly attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church while living in Florida. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching and umpiring softball, fishing, and playing scratch off lottery tickets with his son. He proudly served his country, during the Korean War, as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. Tom retired from Sun Oil Refinery after 40 years, started his own umpire association and after retirement loved working at the Lake Township Cemetery for ten years as a groundskeeper. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Beverly, children T. Timothy Hazel, Cheryl L. (Thomas) Hoot, Lori K. (Tracey) Kruse, grandchildren Matthew T. (Lindy) Hazel, Craig R. Hazel, Nichole C. Seem, Laura L. Tornow, Caitlin R. Kruse, Christopher M. Tornow, Tana C. Kruse, brother, John (Naomi) Hazel, and sister-in-law Betty M. Rhubright. He also is survived by seven great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sharon Awrey and brother Terry N. Hazel. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, a great provider for his family, and always a gentleman. Friends and family will be received Tuesday, March 28 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main Street, Walbridge, OH (419-666-3121) from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, Toledo at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29 with Pastor Beth Giller officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Township Cemetery.
