Born in Queens, NY, in 1943, he grew up in Levittown, NY, where he was active in sports and was even king of his prom. After graduation, he moved to Toledo to attend the University of Toledo to study engineering. He met his 1st wife, Susan, shortly after, and they had a son, Chris. Tom enjoyed fast cars and was active in racing when he was young. Tom later married Becky and gained two more sons, Matt and Chris, whom he treated as his own. Tom was very generous and didn't hesitate to help family and friends with projects or troubles. He especially liked helping with building projects and designed homes for his sister and sons right up to the day he passed. He was a mentor and father figure to his longtime business partner, John, who started as a high school intern and worked for Tom for over 38 years, and will carry on the family-named business in the future.
Tom was very active and cast a wide net of family and friends. He loved his 2nd home in Crystal Mountain, where family and friends would gather to ski, kayak, and golf. Tom loved fine foods and drinks, and even cooking his favorites, lasagna and chicken paprikash, on special occasions. He was a self-proclaimed ladies' man and remained a relentless flirt until the very end. Tom knew many people in Toledo, and you could not go out on the town without bumping into several people who knew and loved him. He will be missed by all, especially his family.
Tom is survived by sons, Chris DuBose, Matt Cook (Heather), and Chris Cook (Nikki); his sister, Lois Gillis (Al, recently passed); grandchildren, Cole, Jake, Sam, Ethan, Jocelyn, Kenzie, Samuel, Derk, Devin, Kelsey, Saige, Quinlan, along with significant others; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and longtime business partner and family friend, John Sperry.
