Thomas F. Carson, Jr.

The world lost a true gentleman with the passing of Thomas Tom Carson Jr. of Maumee, OH. Tom passed away peacefully at home February 10, 2018, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6, 1936, in Pontiac MI to Thomas Sr. and Marion (Hollway) Carson. He was a graduate of Maumee High School (1954), attended the University of Toledo, and was a member of the 2087 ARSU Toledo Army Reserve. Tom Joined Carson Associates in 1962, as a manufacturers rep serving the foundry industry. He went on to assist his father in managing the firm before taking ownership, retiring in 2009. Tom was a lifelong sailor and skilled marine carpenter, with a vast knowledge of wooden boat repair and restoration that was valued by many throughout the local boating community. Sailing out of North Cape Yacht Club, Tom owned many classic wooden sailboats throughout his life. He was honored last year at the 50th anniversary of the Carson Cup, a youth sailing regatta which was originally started by the Carson family. A loving husband and wonderful father he will be truly missed by his family. Tom and his wife Penny had recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Their steadfast love for one another was a true inspiration for all that knew them well. We will always have many fine memories of family gatherings, trips on the boat, working on cars and his keen wit. No trip away from the house was complete without a stop at Penguin Palace or Mama C’s. Tom was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal, Maumee where he served on Vestry, taught Sunday school and most recently served on the Preservation Committee. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Penelope Penny Carson (Saunders), his sister Mary Ann Jacokes, his children Thomas III (Susan), Rebecca Fitzpatrick (Peter), and Matthew (Cheryl), as well as his grandchildren: Sean (Morgan), Bridget, Kyra, Bryan, Molly , Alexis and Hailey who affectionately called him “Boppa”. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, Ohio on Wednesday, February 14th, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Tom’s life will be held on Thursday, February 15th, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth St., Maumee. Special thanks to his caregiver, Jan Hicks, for her loving care the last few years of his life. Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be directed to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Maumee or North Cape Yacht Club’s Junior Sailing Program.
