Thomas Alvin Biggs age 80 of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Otterbein of Perrysburg. Tom was born in Toledo, OH on June 13, 1935 to Walter and Helen (Shugar) Biggs. He was employed at Toledo Public Schools as a teacher and Dean of Students, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. Tom was a 1953 graduate of Maumee High School. He earned his Bachelor in Education degree from Defiance College and his Master in Education degree from the University of Toledo. Tom officiated football and wrestling throughout Northwest Ohio for twenty-five years. He was a member of the Maumee Elks #1850 where he served as Lodge Secretary from 1975-2003. He also served his lodge as Exalted Ruler and District Chairman. Tom was the Ohio Elks Association State President in 1998-1999. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a member of the 1953 undefeated varsity football team at Defiance College as a scholarship player, he was a proud member of The National Football Foundation, Riverby Country Club, Valleywood Golf Club, Brandywine Country Club, the University of Toledo and Defiance College Alumni Association, Sylvania Moose Lodge, and Maumee Eagles. Tom had many friends and associates through his charitable works with the Elks and their youth activities, along with many other local, state, and national charitable foundations. He enjoyed his close association with his neighbors and his work with the Brandywine Condo Association, where he served as Treasurer and board member for many years. Tom had a fall in July of this year and battled numerous complications from his injuries and finally went to rest peacefully in the presence of his family. In honoring Toms wishes, services will be private. He will be interned with his Mother and Father at Calvary Cemetery in Toledo. Surviving is his sister, Kathy (David) Neiman; sister in-law, Suzanne Biggs; nieces and nephews, Jeffrey (Lisa) Biggs, Teri (Karl) Martin, David (Chris) Neiman, Brad Neiman, Brian (Michelle Fite) Neiman and Darrin (Colleen) Neiman, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald (Gerry) Biggs. The family would also like to mention Tom’s very close friends, Donna Asfar and Marty Flynn. They were both very special to Tom. The family would also like to thank his friends at Dino’s and his special care takers at the Franciscan Care Center in Sylvania and at Otterbein in Perrysburg.
