Thomas Dean Bergman, 81, of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on September 10, 1943, in Port Clinton to Norval and Mary Jane (Kessler) Bergman.
Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Communications Technician. A dedicated member of the American Legion for 45 years, he was involved in both the Monroeville, Ohio, and Port Clinton posts.
For 20 years, Thomas served as president of Schneider, Inc. in Monroeville and later dedicated 22 years as the Mayor of Monroeville. He was also actively involved with the Huron River Joint Fire District, serving as a captain for several years.
After relocating back to Port Clinton, Thomas worked as a District Sales Manager for Wick Buildings, a national pole barn company, and later became a self-employed salesman for Affordable Buildings.
Thomas was an avid fisherman and boater, as well as a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians. Known for his dry sense of humor, he enjoyed woodworking and crafting handmade items.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Jean (Chaffin) Bergman; son, Matthew; daughter, Andrea (Tim) McCray; brother, Mark (Jill) Bergman; stepchildren, Donald, David, and Rick Warnke, and Julie (John Oliver) McCord; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Beverly (Failor) Bergman; two infant daughters, Amy and Susan; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda & Charles Vaughn and Judith & James Minoff.
Funeral services for Thomas will be conducted by Pastor Jarrod Schaaf at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, Ohio. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at The Denny Bergeman K of C Hall in Port Clinton. Graveside committal services and military rites will take place at approximately 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Monroeville, Ohio.
