Theresia Marie Schetter

Theresia Marie Schetter Born in Poland, Theresia was raised in Vienna, Austria. She endured the war years as a teenager, and met her future husband Louis while he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the occupation that followed. Speaking very little English, she arrived in the United States to get married in the Spring of 1947. With the help of her new American family, and the support of other immigrants at the International Institute, she settled into learning English, becoming a naturalized citizen, and raising a family. In 1962, she was able to return home for the first time. She and Louis returned to Austria together on a later trip to revisit the sites of his military travels and of their courtship. She was an excellent cook and baker, with many of her recipes not even written down. She moved into an apartment at the Swan Creek Retirement Village in 1994; as her health declined, she spent the last few years in their skilled care unit. We would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Swan Creek for their continued love and support throughout the years. Her husband Louis preceded her in death in 1990. She is survived by her children, Rita Rovito, Frederick (Charlotte), Gerald, and Christine (Benjamin) Toh, as well as her sister, Lucy Listopad (in Vienna). She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm, with a scripture service at 4:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at St. Pius X Parish, 2950 Ilger Ave., Toledo at 10:30 am. A graveside service will immediately follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
