Theresa E. Angel

Theresa E. Terry Angel 86, of Sylvania, passed away Friday, Feb 21, 2014 in her sleep surrounded by her family. She was born on August 25, 1927 in Hillsdale, MI to the late Paul and Julia DeRose. She was the youngest of six children. Terry graduated from Hillsdale High School and furthered her education by taking classes at Lourdes University. In 1956 she married Joseph Martin Angel of Toledo, which brought her to the Toledo area. She was a devoted mother of five children. Theresas life was driven by her Faith, family and service to others. She was very active in her parish of St. Josephs, Sylvania. Some of the ministries she participated in included administering to the homebound parishioners, founding the funeral choir, being a founding member of the parish Womens Club, Christ Renews His Parish along with other numerous parish activities. In March of 2013, Bishop Leonard Blair presented her with the Open Arms award for her service to others while having many physical struggles of her own. She was also the founding member of the Womens AIA American Institute of Architecture Auxiliary, Toledo Chapter. For 33 years Theresa was a volunteer at ProMedica Lake Park where she helped comfort the aged and sick. While raising her five children she was also very active at their schools including St. Josephs Sylvania, St. Francis DeSales and Notre Dame Academy. Service to others was her life. Theresa also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, floral arranging and planning events. She was very creative and enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting, creating seasonal decorations and copper enameling, all of which she took pleasure in giving as gifts. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Joe; beloved children, Susan, Mark Eileen, Matt and Marie Joe Iozzo; grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan; siblings, Louise Lewis Aemisegger; brother-in-law, Doug Freed; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph Paul; sisters, Rose DeRose, Mary Howard Kaiser, Virginia Freed; and brother, Nick Liz DeRose. Visitation will be Monday from 2-9 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday with prayers at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5411 Main Street, Sylvania, for 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Josephs, Sylvania, St. Francis DeSales, Notre Dame Academy or EWTN.
