Theodore A. Porter, 62, of Jasper, MI went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at UTMC Hospital. He was born October 28, 1951 to Van Rensselaer and Margie Porter of Wayne, OH. Teds family lived in Ohio before moving to Temperance, MI during his teen years. He attended Bedford HS graduating in 1969. Ted started working at ORourke Sunoco, then onward to R M Trailers making horse trailers. In July of 1970, he married Denise Dunlop of Detroit, MI. Ted then worked as a custodian for Ypsilanti Schools and for Kellermeyer Cleaning Services, Toledo. He went on to start his career as a welder at Doehler-Jarvis where he worked until they left the Toledo area in the 1990s. In addition he worked at Rays Polishing. During his careers he worked as a Pastor at Assembly of Christians and as an Elder at Northwest Christian and Covenant Church, Perrysburg. Ted is survived by Denise, his loving wife of 43 years; his loving children, Erica Chris Scharer, Stephanie Demian Browning, Theodore Maria, and Paul Keri who all remain in the area; 12 grandchildren, William, Eden, Eriann, Elizabeth, Evie, P.J., Victoria, Xandria, Lilly, Raiden, Theodore, and Ozzy; mother, Margie of Haines, FL; sisters, Pam Hancock and Starr Coffee; and brother, Van Rensselaer. He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Vanetta and his father, Van Rensselaer. Visitation will be Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Additional visitation will be Monday, February 24 from 10-11:00am at Christ the Word Church, 3100 Murd Rd. Sylvania, OH at Central Ave. with services immediately following. Ted will be laid to rest at Ogden Township Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
