Theodore F. Meyers, 80, of Perrysburg, Ohio, died one time, on August 1, 2025.

Ted was known for his quiet strength, love for family, dry humor, and quirky Ted-isms like “died one time.”

He was born August 16, 1944, to Glennis (Klingbeil) and Bob Meyers, both of whom preceded him in death.

Ted also was preceded in death by wife Jean (Mesteller), whom he met and courted near Lake Erie. Their first date, in the summer of 1963, was to Cedar Point, where Ted was playing with the Leipsic Alley Cat Band.

Ted and Jeanne raised two daughters, Liza (Scott) Heinig and Suzi (Jon) Morales, in Leipsic, Ohio. He was endlessly supportive and proud of his daughters, reminding Liza to change her oil regularly and inventing somewhat inexplicable games with Suzi.

Family and friends were joyful when Ted met and married Kathy (Siwa Poling) in 2006. Kathy benevolently tolerated his Ted-isms.
Ted also is survived by brother Gene (Pat) Meyers; sister Marilyn (Bob) Geil; stepsons Todd (Michelle) Poling and Troy Poling; nine grandchildren, Adam Poling, Emily (Joe) Koralewski, Jake Poling, JT Morales, Kate Heinig, Lucy Heinig, Luke Morales, Rachael (Nick) Hackney, and Ryan Poling; and one great-grandson, Jaylen Koralewski.

Ted played football and trombone at Leipsic High School until his graduation in 1962. He remained loyal to several friends from his teen years even as they spread across the country.

After graduation, Ted attended The Ohio State University before enlisting in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He served aboard the minesweeper USS Exultant along the Atlantic Coast.

Following his Naval service and honorable discharge, Ted returned to his education, earning a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Toledo. He owned and operated the Meyers Electric appliance store in downtown Leipsic until he bravely embarked on a second career in midlife, as a sales representative for Enesco.

Community always was important to Ted. He served on the Leipsic Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years and taught basic firefighting for the state of Ohio, sang in the choir and was on the board of the First Lutheran Church in Leipsic, was a 50-year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of the Valley of Toledo, and was perhaps the oldest member of the Leipsic High School pep band, playing alongside his daughters in the 1990s. In his many endeavors, even the most casual inquiry into how he was doing would be met with a chipper yet sincere Ted-ism, “Just right!”

When Ted married Kathy, he moved to Perrysburg. From the Kroger store to the Caribbean, Ted was constantly by Kathy’s side, traveling often and simply enjoying daily life. Ted could frequently be found working on a “project,” and loved doing odd jobs and exchanging banter with Troy, one of the sons who became his through Kathy.

All are welcome to a visitation on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 2–4:30 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home at 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, followed by a service at 4:30 p.m.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Ridge Cemetery at 5695 SR-613, Leipsic, Ohio, 45856.

In lieu of flowers, Ted’s family would appreciate donations to Putnam County Homecare & Hospice or the Leipsic First Lutheran Church.

“Doesn’t get any better than this,” was another oft-repeated Ted-ism, to which the reply was, “Not ’round here.”
’Round here or anywhere else, they don’t get any better than Ted.
