Theodore P. Kunkle After a long and blessed life Theodore Ted Kunkle passed away peacefully Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the age of 92. Ted was born Dec 12, 1915 in the northwest Ohio village of Kunkle and grew up in the Kunkle area amongst many family and friends. In the mid 30s he attended BGSU and obtained a teachers certificate and continued his education at OSU where in 1940 he obtained his BS in Civil Engineering and became an avid and forever Buckeye fan! He briefly worked for the Ohio State Highway Department prior to entering the Army in 1941. He was stationed primarily in the Philippines during WW II. Shortly after the war he married the love of life Dorothy Bernath, moved to Toledo and enjoyed over 45 years together until her death in 1995. After the war Ted worked for the City of Toledo Department of Bridges and Harbors, spent a short time with the City of Bryan, and then spent the predominant portion of his professional career at Jones and Henry Engineers in Toledo from where he retired in 1980. Ted is survived by his 3 children, Cyndee Robert Andrews, Nancy Gibbs, Joseph Kristine Kunkle; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He experienced and much appreciated the many blessings of family. This feeling of family also extended to his home at Kingston in Sylvania. Ted had many interests and hobbies. In his childhood years, with the influence of his father, he acquired a love of music along with his five older siblings. Their Kunkle Family Band for over ten years did Saturday night concerts in the town square, along with commencements and receptions with Ted on clarinet. The love of music and family echoed throughout Teds life. He also enjoyed memorizing and reciting poetry which began during the war years and he continued to please friends and family reciting classic poems. With his wife he enjoyed many years of square dancing and was also noted for his keen bridge playing ability. For those who were blessed to share lifes journey with Ted they experienced, love, joy, harmony and kindness. He will be dearly missed.
