Thelma Saggese

Thelma Saggese, age 92, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at The Toledo Hospital. Mrs. Saggese was a teacher with the Toledo Public School System for over 50 years. She was a highly intelligent, articulate lady, who spoke her mind eloquently and remained an active vibrant person right up until the end of her life. Thelma was born on November 22, 1918 in New York. A graduate of Danbury State Teachers College in Danbury, CT, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and remained active with the sorority for many years. She moved to Toledo and was hired by Toledo Public Schools in 1953. She received her Master of Education Degree in Counseling from the University of Toledo in 1978. Thelma also sold real estate for 10 years. She was an avid gardener and cat lover. Thelma was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, supporting them in all their activities. She never missed a grandchild or great-grandchilds birthday or special event in their lives. Family was important to her. She was very proud of her family which began with her as an only child and grew to what it is today. She would often say she was rich in family. She is survived by her children, John Carol Saggese, Paul Saggese, and Arlene Chuck Tucker; eleven grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Saggese. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 9 PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd where funeral services will be on Monday at 10 AM. Interment will be held at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
