Thaddeus P. Ted McHugh, age 83, of Toledo, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at The Toledo Hospital. Ted was born June 26, 1934 in Ballybane, Headford, Co. Galway, Ireland to the late Joseph and Sarah (Heneghan) McHugh. He came to the U.S. in 1959 and worked in Florida until 1969 when he went to the University of Dayton to obtain his Masters degree in Political Science. Ted moved to Toledo in 1970 to teach at Mary Manse College and then later at Wayne State University. He retired in 2000 as the Director of Adult Liberal Studies from the University of Toledo where he served for more than 20 years. Ted was very proud of his Irish heritage and had a deep knowledge of Irish culture, history and music. He was well known for his role with the Echoes of Ireland radio show on WCWA AM 1230 that he co-hosted with longtime friend, John Connolly, on Sunday mornings for more than 28 years. He was also a true patriot and loved his adopted home in the U.S. Ted was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying Notre Dame Fighting Irish football and Galway Gaelic football and hurling. He himself was an accomplished athlete, playing Gaelic football for his high school, St. Marys, in Galway. Ted was an excellent story-teller and cook, a great humanitarian, often caring for the needs of others before his own, and will be lovingly remembered for his sensitive, gentle nature. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Susan A. (Feeney) McHugh; daughters, Katie and Molly McHugh; and siblings, Olive Summerville, Frank (Hilda) McHugh, Rose ORiordan, Kevin (Anna) McHugh, Sadie McHugh, Sr. Riona McHugh, Fr.
