Teresa Swolsky died Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Pearland, Texas at her daughter Alex’s home. She had been undergoing treatment at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. Teri was born in Marion, Indiana on October 25, 1951 to Thomas and Lois (Robinson) Brock and moved to Toledo in 1953. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School at attended the University of Toledo. One cousin, a Professor of Psychology, called her a Renaissance Women. She was an avid reader and collected books on everything. We teased her about being obsessive. Teri had a very passionate approach to life. Her first real challenge was a job requirement that she become licensed to drive an 18-wheeler which she did with delight. She brought that same sense of adventure to all of her life experiences: she was a committed gardener and learned all the botanical names; attracted birds with appropriate seeds and feeders and urged the family to do the same; taught her girls about America’s diversity by taking them on camping trips from Maine to Mt. Rushmore to the West Coast; researched local Native American culture and took them to Manitoulin Island in Canada to a week long Pow Wow; learned genealogy tracing family roots to 1628 in Boston and across to Wales. Other interests were her stock club and the Ambassadors to the Toledo Museum of Art. She taught her girls the importance of citizenship with her examples of political, civic, and cultural involvement. Whatever she felt passionate about she waded in and gave it her all. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas W. (T.W.) Brock. Surviving is her mother Lois Brock; brother Jeffery; daughters Alex (Chris) Joo and Catie (Shane) O’Neil; granddaughters Marley and McKenna; niece Ellie; nephew Keating; and by her former husband Joseph H. Swolsky and his sons Oskar and Julius. A memorial service at Epworth United Methodist Church will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider contributions in her memory to the Toledo Museum of Art.
