Tarry Ray Nehls

May 18, 1950 — November 15, 2023

Tarry R. Nehls was born on May 18, 1950, and went to heaven on November 15, 2023, at the age of 73. Tarry grew up in Oak Harbor, Ohio, where he graduated high school and then later attended Tiffin University. In high school, he started working at the local grocery store and then stayed in the grocery industry for the rest of his career holding a variety of positions, including store manager. He eventually transitioned to a sales food rep and then sales manager for the Harold M. Lincoln Company where he worked for 15 years. During this time, he received his real estate license and worked part time for Century 21 Real Estate in Wauseon, Ohio.


Tarry married and lived in Genoa, Luckey, and Woodville, Ohio, before settling in Wauseon, Ohio, where all of his girls grew up and went to school. He enjoyed attending and supporting all of their various activities. He served on the Wauseon School board and was active at Trinity Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and helping with the Christmas decorations. After 30+ years of marriage, he divorced and moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he lived in a group home for several years before moving to Columbus, Ohio, to be closer to family. He made friends in his retirement community and enjoyed making silk flower arrangements to share with the other residents.


Tarry was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Virginia Nehls and brother H. Michael Nehls. He is survived by his twin, brother Barry (Sue) Nehls; and daughters Crystal (Mike) Soto, Heather (Andy) Witten, and Jennifer (Rick) Knox, and his 6 grandchildren.


Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, OH with visitation two hours prior from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Roose Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be given to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Music Program, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) or Kobacker Hospice House, Columbus, OH. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor is assisting the family with arrangements.
