Sylvia Newman

Sylvia June Newman, 86, of Martin, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at her daughter’s residence. She was born on April 20, 1936 in Woodville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arthur and Almeda (Hagemyer) Diebert.

Known affectionately as June Bug, Junny, or Red, she worked at various places including the Albon Inn, Holland, Luther Home of Mercy, and Miller’s New Market. She graduated from Stautzenberger Collage in 1980.

June always worked hard and provided for her family. Holidays were always a highlight to her life. In her spare time she enjoyed going to the casinos, working in her yard, cooking, playing cards, camping, chatting with the family, sitting in the sun, and drinking coffee at Northwood Jewelers when she went to see her nephew. You could always tell where she was in a room because of her loud laughter. She was everyone’s person to go to for information, and she was a mother to many. She always gave good advice and had a caring and giving heart and would welcome anyone to her home to sit and drink a coffee or beer. One of her favorite candies was Brach’s root beer barrels, and she enjoyed a good steak on special occasions.

Survivors include her son, Daren (Lisa) Newman; daughters, Marlene (Garnet ) Moll, Kathy Gephart (Robles) and Karen Gephart; siblings, Fred Diebert and Linda Tanner; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews, whom she shared a special bond with. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sons, Randy & Jack Diebert, siblings, Mildred Taylor, John Diebert, Walter Diebert, Nancy Flick and Denver Diebert.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West Street, Genoa, Ohio 43430. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date.
