Sylvester A. Schmidt, 81, of Curtice, Ohio died Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon, OH. He was born in Garner, Iowa on November 26, 1931 to Adam V. and Anna Simon Schmidt. He married Joanne L. Frosch in Mominee Town, OH on October 6, 1962 and she survives. Sylvester was a freight handler for the former Interstate Motor Freight Co. for 30 years and a groundskeeper for Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo for 25 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Combat Infantry Badge. In his younger years he coached Little League baseball and went to the World Series. He later coached Softball as well. Sylvester also enjoyed bowling and golfing in his spare time. Survivors of Sylvester include his wife of 51 years, Joanne, daughter, Anna Marie Schmidt, and granddaughter, Sarah Lillian Schmidt-Sarabia, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 15 brothers and sisters. A funeral service for Sylvester will be conducted at 5:30 PM, Monday, May 20, 2013 in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, OH. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 5:30 PM. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in the Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, OH. It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Sylvesters granddaughters college education in care of Joanne Schmidt.
