Sylvester Meitinger, age 79, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, July 14th, 2016, in his Toledo, Ohio, home. He was born in Lauffen am Neckar, Germany, on February 25, 1937. He grew up as a small boy during WWII. He came to the United States in 1957, following his childhood sweetheart, Margaret, whom he married and who he loved dearly. He was an accomplished tool and die and maker in New Jersey, and produced numerous patents. After his transfer to Michigan in 1964, he finished his carrier with Wacker Chemical, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Toledo Schwaben Verein and the Bavarian Sports Club. He was also a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida in the winters after his retirement. He had a great interest in studying history, and had a superb knowledge of the subject. He enjoyed above all, however, spending time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret, daughter, Rosemary (Robert) D’Agostino, and grandchildren Laura (Christopher) Hubachek and Mary (Nicholas) Berkey. The family would especially like to thank Dr. David Grossman for his superb medical care, providing him with great understanding, comfort, and encouragement. They would also like to thank the staff at US Renal Care Wildwood Dialysis. Interment will be private. There will be a memorial service scheduled at a later date.
