Suzanne M. Schroeder

March 6, 1934 — January 13, 2021

Suzanne Brunner Schroeder, 86, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 13, 2021. She was born to parents Francis John Brunner and Monique Gengler Brunner on March 6, 1934. Sue attended St. Teresa Elementary School and graduated from St. Ursula Academy in 1952, where she was active in drama and music. In 1956, Sue graduated from Marygrove College, Detroit, with a BA in Education and English. Later in life, she earned a Fine Arts degree from the University of Toledo. She made lifelong friends at SUA, a devoted group who met regularly throughout their lives. On June 29, 1957, Sue married Edward J. Schroeder, Jr. Together they raised four wonderful children. She began her career as a teacher in Toledo Public and Parochial Schools. She was always active in her community, serving as a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art for 16 years, and as a member and on the boards of the League of Women Voters and the Perrysburg Country Garden Club. Sue was a voracious reader and loved movies, boating, and was an award-winning artist. She also loved travel, and spent time in the Far East and Europe, and especially enjoyed trips to visit her children. One of her biggest accomplishments was in her mid-50s, where she spent a year living in Juneau, Alaska volunteering with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Sue is survived by her son Ed (Maureen) Schroeder of Perrysburg, daughters Beth (Steve) Preston of Nashville, Sally (Gene) Price of Birmingham, AL, Karen (Joe) Sledge of Fairhope, AL, Fifteen grandchildren: Brandon, Meredith (Laura), Cage (Lara), Anna, John, Erin (Hechy), EJ, Erich (Abby), Evan, Sarah (Henry), Temple, Lew, Frances, Jack and Charlie. She is also survived by her brother Dr. John Brunner (Mary Ellen) and sister, Mary Patricia Birsen. Sue’s greatest wish has been to be a great grandmother. Abby and Erich are about to make her wish a reality with the birth of her first great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward J. Schroeder, Jr., an infant grandson George Sledge and younger brother David Brunner. We are grateful to the staff at the Waterford at Levis Commons and Southern Care Hospice for their care and love in her final years. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements with Witzler-Shank Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). The family plans to have a celebration of her life once the risk of COVID is past. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 577 Foundation or the Toledo Museum of Art.
