Suzanne Barbara Gradel

Suzanne, daughter of Mary (Chmielowcz) and Adrian Mougey, passed away peacefully at Toledo Hospital on Wednesday May 26, 2021 at the age of 84. A lifetime Toledo resident, Sue attended Blessed Sacrament grade school; Central Catholic High School, class of 1955; and the University of Toledo, class of 1959, all where she made lifelong friendships. While at Central Catholic she met her loving husband of 62 years, Urb Gradel. Sue and Urban married in the spring of 1959 while she was earning her bachelor’s degree in education, teaching the third grade at Navarre School. It was a career she maintained until the birth of her son Theodore, then later her daughter Mary. Family is her greatest legacy, being a devoted mother and grandmother. Hers was the house where a constant stream of friends and cousins could enjoy the glass of Kool-aid and fun activities! By the time her 6 grandchildren arrived, she had perfected the art of entertaining kids. She taught them the important life lessons...such as how to spit a cherry pit, skip a stone, paint a rock, play cards, enjoy reading, and speak “Suzie”. Remember Sue when you see the clear blue of Torch Lake water, her favorite place on earth; or when you smell a blooming rose, as her beautiful garden and home were always a sense of joy and pride. It was a life filled with vibrant color, happiness, laughter, and great love! Surviving Suzanne are her husband Urban Gradel; son Ted (Sarah Anderson) Gradel; daughter Mary (David) Gothier; grandchildren Frances, Anderson, and Adrienne Gradel; Cecelia, Theodore, and Georgia Gothier; brother James (Kathleen) Mougey; brothers-in-law Blaine Wiley and Les Gunzenhaeuser; and sister-in-law Karen (Douglas) Stone. She was preceded in death by her sisters Joan Wiley and Mary Beth Gunzenhaeuser. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you out to the team at Toledo Hospital’s AICU. Their dedication, round the clock care, compassion, and gentle guidance provided immeasurable comfort throughout this difficult time. Visitation will be on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 3-8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. Toledo, OH 43623. The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5411 Main St., Sylvania. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
