Suzanne "Sue" Aston, age 81, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, surrounded by the family she devoted her life to nurturing.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, on February 13, 1945, to the late Glovan and Marion (Wells) Brown, Sue was a 1963 graduate of Whitmer High School. A lifelong Toledoan until moving to Rockwood, Michigan, in 2017, she worked at the YMCA and in local banking before dedicating herself fully to her role as a mother and homemaker.
Sue was the devoted wife of the late John Aston, III., with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Together, they created a lifetime of memories during summers at Bowman Pool, Wampler's Lake, and Pokagon State Park. She was a fixture at the Stranahan Theater, holding season tickets for over 20 years, and was rarely seen without her hair and nails perfectly done. She was often found relaxing in one of her signature velour jumpsuits or sunning in one of her bandeau swimsuits. She maintained many traditions and was known for making homemade cinnamon rolls at the holidays and the best baked beans for family gatherings.
She attended many of her grandchildren's sporting events and knew exactly what she liked-from her specific McDonald's order to her favorite reality TV shows.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, John (2022), her siblings, Tom Brown and Lynn Brown Durham, and lifelong friend (and cousin) Beverly Steele.
She is survived by her children: Amy Butler (Wayne Rascon) and her children Hannah Arno (Chris) and Joe; Andy Aston (Amanda Budy) and their children Carolyn, John, Emma, and Ava; and Heidi Whitehouse (Clif) and their children Owen and Olvia. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Beethoven and her cuddle partner, granddog Jackson.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Sue's many caregivers - Dr. Mazin Salem, Sherri, Pam, and Kourtney - who provided selfless care and unconditional love and support.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH. Additional visitation will take place on Monday, March 23, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio (where Sue received exceptional care from Dr. Shirley Bodi, Sarah, and Kristen), St. Francis de Sales High School, or the Toledo Metroparks.
