Susan Kaye O’Kenka, age 67, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2020 in her home. Susie was born October 28, 1953 in Toledo to the late Ralph Bohland and Hattie “Pat” Hinkle. She graduated from Waite High School in 1972 and worked most of her career as a bookkeeper. Susie was a classic child of the sixties; imaginative, creative, artistic, stylish, soulful, and young at heart. She was a wildflower with a contagious free spirit, had a larger-than-life personality and simply loved everyone, especially her family. Susie was a dedicated mother and grandmother and found her greatest joy in time spent caring for her daughter and grandchildren. She could often be found transcending herself by reading crime and mystery novels, watching crime shows and monster movies, or taking long baths. Susie’s big presence and kind heart is already missed, and her loss will leave an empty space in the lives of many. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Michelle Schroeder; grandchildren, Brittany (Sean) Wilkins, Justin (Breanne) Langlois, Ryan and Luke Schroeder; great grandchildren, Charlie, Michael and Finley; siblings, Carol (Tom) Furry and Russel (Denise) Bohland; and sister-in-law, Sandy Bohland. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Facial coverings and social distancing are required and the family requests that all in attendance please wear bright colors to celebrate Susie’s personality. Memorial contributions in her name are suggested to Leashes for Valor (https://leashesofvalor.org/). Condolences and fond memories are encouraged to be shared on the Tribute Wall of this page.
