Susan J. Lechman

Susan J. Lechman, age 78, of Toledo, died March 26, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born May 29, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa to the late Robert II and Emily (Kuh) Valentine.

Susan moved with her family to the Toledo area in the early 1960’s and earned her nursing degree. She served the needs of many as a registered nurse with several area facilities including Wood County Hospital, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Fremont Home Health. Susan enjoyed being outdoors and maintained a large vegetable garden when her kids were young, canning her bounty for future enjoyment. She was an excellent cook, known for her homemade breads and cookies. Susan made and gifted countless cookie boxes at Christmas every year. She also liked to knit and play Bridge with her friends. Susan was always feisty and strong-willed, “mothering” others all throughout her life. She had a deep faith in Christ and would want others to know that she is okay now, resting in the loving arms of Jesus.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jamie (Kim) Lechman, Michelle (Kevin) Holder, and Sara (Mike) Shields; grandchildren, Christopher (Lacey) Lechman, Lauren, Julia, AnaRenae, and Selah Holder, and Allen Shields; and great grandchildren, Nora, Bellamy, and Allie Jo Lechman. Susan was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert III and John Valentine; and former husband of 34 years, James Lechman, Sr.

Family and friends are invited to visit in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 6:00 p.m.
